Yes (at least last time I checked), and I do not care. It is such a bad game I do not care what they do. (edit: and they won't. There hasn't been a court case yet about NDA's over videogames in America. The worst they will do is ban you from the beta, seriously.)

There is no way they are going to be able to make it good unless if they delay it even more, which will just piss people off. So they won't, and then people will play it cause they were forced to release it early, which will just piss people off.

Hmmm, this sounds oddly familiar.

I think you are all being very silly. The idea of doing 'well' at something in a game, just so you can show off to other people, has been around since the dawn of computing. It's called a high score, that is pretty much all a 'title' is. A fancy, specific high score. Definitely not a next gen thing.

WoW is having to evolve and adapt as Blizzard realise they will suffer more and more threat to their 'market leader' position.

Personally I have never liked WoW despite trying to get into it several times. That doesn't make it a bad game though. Neither does the fact that they built the game using a whole bunch of ideas, that had already proved popular amongst MMO pioneers.

Nobody is truly copying anyone else, everything has just steadily evolved, from the Ultima and Phantasie (I played these) days to where we are now. Just play what you want and if anyone else doesn't like it sod em!! .... end of.

Basically this. =)

They don't have much of a threat atm, but they will eventually. They're just solidifying their position by adding something that has been around forever in gaming. (though I disagree on the high score/title comparison. They serve different purposes.)

Nothing new!

EDIT: Well except for the fact that WoW is adding achievements of course.

(also we've had topics on this before too. ;( )

I normally try to avoid just posting things like "who cares," but I seriously fail to see the reason any of us should care about this.

It's a game that none of us play and most of us hate. Crapping our pants because Blizzard looked at GW and said "hey, that's a good idea" isn't going to make Anet's fanbase look any better.

It's a compliment, IF ANYTING.

I am playing WoW at the moment, and must say I am not pleased that they copy all the grindy aspects of GW.

Some titles seem to be more fleshed out, the basic concept however is very much like in GW.

They also copied some of the "worst" ideas regarding titles, IMO: The "hug" title is a direct copy of the Lord of the Rings "the beloved" title, that you gain after "kissing" people per emote 100 times.

Heck, you even get a title for changing your hairstyle in the barbershop (a good idea, the barbershop, the title is the cheesy thing)

I wonder how they will implement the achievement points - so far they seem to give only cosmetic rewards, nothing else. Just like GW.

I am still sceptical. TITLE HUNT changed the GW mentality fundamentally. As stupid as it is, and as optional as it is, it turned the game into a do this, do that grind. At least for me.

Well, maybe it is time to get over MMOs in general. Maybe it is really time for a next generation MMO that copies more the world feeling aspect that the good old Ultima Online has/had.

P.S.: It is not really that important whole stole which idea from whom, the freaking issue is that they always seem to steal the worst idea of the competitors...^^

A smart man who has the most subscribed MMORPG in the entire world, when the game is about boring grind titles.

Next up on WoW: Survivor! Get to level 70 without dying once! Well, with WotLK, it will be 80. Man, that's gonna hurt for a Survivor.

Good for them, they should have had this in there earlier especially since they rely on monthly subs it should have been a no brainer.

But thats all its really good for, filler, something to do when the content is over, which I dont mind what esle you going to do? Nothing? ... its better than nothing. The problems start when the grind becomes for real pve advanatges like in the form of maxing a skill, as long as its for vanity like Survivor, explorer etc then I dont mind. But they gotta give the skilled players something to show off and right now therse nothing, 99% of the titles are grind based, not skill.

That's actually really really easy.

If you're on a PvE server.

on a somewhat related topic. (i have to preface this by saying i dont know diddly about WOW. i did the trial it was cool: FULLSTOP anyways take a look at there skills and GW's, some actually are identical in name. a friend of mine plays wow religeously and we were comparing notes. it was flat out hilarious. then the whole dungeon thing, chained instances etc. lets face it the general idea between both games is similar they just get there in a different way. on the whole the two games are light years apart aside from being MMO's.

I couldnt agree more. It is sad to see both GW and WoW reach such a pathetic level of rewarding mindless grind. The difference is mindless grind was not part of the GW design in the beginning, while at least some grinding was always there in WoW.

To be fair, when the original title system went live, I was okay with it, because there was 0 titles that affected the actual play experience back in Factions.

None of the titles affected skills, or gave you anything. Just for looks. That was okay with me, because it did what the achievement system is supposed to do: prolong gameplay for those who like to be "perfectionists" without affecting the experience of those who don't.

Nightfall changed this.

the least they could do is make it a creative grind
compare the grind of titles on GW like norn, asuran etc with other games like Team Fortress 2, TF2 has achievements but they'er not about grinding your scores but they're very creative and fun to do
too bad i never saw such challenges in GW
would be fun for a list of achievements from easy to harder
like "Perform a /taunt emote over a dead Charr boss" or "Kill 5 enemies while suffering under the Dazed and Blind condition"

I actually play WoW, but eh, it looks like there a LOT of achievements, 100's maybe. There's simple ones like getting you hair cut(in the expansion) to getting 1,000 kills in PvP. There's a lot of diversity IMO, I'm looking forward to it. Maybe you can get something when you have a certain amount of achievement points ^_^
